He's certainly unique. A thief who steals, but always returns the good, who makes heists more like a magic show, and, rumor has it, does it all while being shot at.

He's totally insane and yet a genius being both moral and immoral. A contradiction, really. [And there was an undertone of fondness there. Being truthful, he honestly enjoyed those heists immensely and both hated and liked the guy.]

A shame you can't get to know him outside of trying to catch him then, hmm? Sounds like you'd be absolutely wonderful friends.

He's more of the loud, obnoxious, over the top sense of humor with the dash of sarcasm. I have a dark humor and a serious personality. Kind of a light and dark contrast.

Very true. If rivals have a common interest or ideal, it's very easy to progress. Otherwise, some people just aren't compatible.

Yeah. His is more of the 'let's dye this person's head in rainbow colors and put him in a mortifying outfit' type of humor. Dark humor isn't his style. Understandable, really. He hates it if anyone gets hurt during his heist.

He's looking for something. He's a second generation to the name Kaitou Kid. At first he stole a wide variety of things and then after an incident where chasing Kid led to the home of a Yakuza member, he specialized in only large gems unless otherwise challenged since then. Or had...some other personal motivation.

So he didn't know what he wanted at first, but found out, and now he's searching through large jewels for a specific jewel. The fact he didn't know what it is leads me to believe it's because the original Kaitou Kid wasn't around to tell him.

I wonder... why is he so flashy about it? Is it his nature? Or is it subconscious honesty, to fight fair for what he needs to find? Really, I can only vaguely guess.

Or maybe he just likes attention. Who knows!

And I believe part of it is BECAUSE of the attention. Like I said, it happened after the police were led to a yakuza member's house where a fake of the jewel was. And he will occasionally have people shoot at him. And he didn't know something, but he suddenly seemed to know?

Simply put, there's a third party involved that he met that night. And I suspect it's what he wanted. To draw their attention. And in that way, find out what he wanted to find.

What is so important about that jewel, why the previous Kaitou Kid was involved with it, why people are willing to kill for that specific jewel...I don't have the faintest clue.

But you will find out, won't you? You said once that I'm the second person you wanted to find out the motives of by pure curiosity alone... is he the first?

He's a noble guy. A good hearted person. He doesn't have a lot of greed to give back those jewels. Never allows someone to get away hurting people on his heists and will risk his own life to protect another's. And he'll even answer calls for help to rescue a dog, even if it's because it's Lupin.

What drove a guy like that to steal in the first place? And what is so important about a jewel that he'll risk death to get it when he keeps nothing else?

What sort of detective would I be if I didn't want to figure out the mystery when I'm just on the edge of knowing the full truth?

... Then with that kind of motivation, you are a detective I can fully acknowledge as a worthy opponent. [ That is the truth event talking. Beato would never hand out such a weighty compliment under normal terms, and it's evident in how taken aback her expression is after she says it. ]

[Looks at her curiously.] ...it's a good thing. Detectives that pursue the truth honestly are usually the best there are. It's a need to be right, so we won't declare just anything as fact.

There are many detectives that pursue truth arrogantly, just to prove that they're right, and their theory is right. It's not a true truth they seek, but rather, proving the one they fabricated is plausible and therefore, must be the only truth there is. That kind of detective is deplorable, even from a witch's standpoint.

And from a true detective's standpoint. It's not detective work to stick with one theory and never allow yourself to be proven wrong. Then you'd be the same as the person who accuses while riled up except you can make the argument sound better.

That's why I could never challenge someone like that. They'd back themselves in a corner with a single arrogant truth and I could tear them apart easily.

And you'd hate such a boring game, right?
