[Once again, there's a disgruntled, bloodied Hakuba with bloody holes in his clothing grumping downstairs in the Inn.]

[Oh, he's got spare clothes that aren't mauled, he's just not going to worry about them at the moment.]

If Belldandy hadn't saved us when we did, Hyobu was about to do that to me - and yes, that was about the most frightening thing I've had threatened on me here, to lose everything I've been working on or even be turned against someone I care about that casually.

It's alright. The last few months have been incredibly chaotic, and there hasn't exactly been much time to settle down and breathe in between things going wrong. [You're probably going to have to do something to let him know when you've recovered enough for dignity to override the keysmash.]

[He's still recovering. He's fine here. Besides, doing that means bringing up he's letting you use him as a teddy bear or something.]

I only know a small part of how this works - and the theoretical value of things like getting closer to Erika, so you'll have to humor me for a more complete explanation.

...I was looking at the magic a bit too critically, and you were just a bit too accepting for us to see the truth. In all honesty, that would be why Battler is the perfect candidate. Smart enough to wing it, but not so smart that he gets stuck like we would.

Magic, in the end, holds a basis in the mind and what is perceived.

And what can be thought of. If you block out all possible conceptions perceived in one's mind of the truth, then it is magic. As long as you can keep thinking, to trick people from seeing the truth of the matter, the magic is real.

And that's why a witch can only die when they stop thinking.
