[He still thinks most everyone on the island is insane. No, he still doesn't believe in all the magic. And yes, he's still trying to find some way to logically explain everything.

But even detective maniac Edogawa Conan needs a break. Which was why today he was taking a break. At present, he was sitting under a tree with a stack of comic books on top of his jacket laying on the ground.

They were Sherlock Holmes comics. He wanted to see if they were any good since he hadn't gotten the chance to read them back home. For the moment, he seems more than content.

...now, really, he's just asking for someone to bug him.]

It's interesting... Holmes' powers of observation are pretty impressive. And you can't help but like his personality. Though I think it'd drive me crazy if I ever met him.

It'd be awesome to meet him! I was disappointed when we couldn't meet him in the Cocoon game. At least if we were about to die, Noah could have let us actually meet Holmes.

Cocoon game?

Agasa had helped develop the system, so we got invited to the party for it. The Cocoon system is a Virtual Reality system. You go into an egg capsule thing and it takes over your senses so you feel like you're in the game. It's very real.

Of course with how it's connected, it's also possible to fry the player's brain through the system and an AI program developed by the prodigy who had helped in making the system who took on his personality after he committed suicide had threatened to do that if we didn't win the game. Ran-neechan, my friends, and I were all playing and we chose the mystery game option.

...Noah...or rather Hiroki wasn't so bad. He just wanted the truth to be found out and he wanted to push us to find it no matter what.

[His life is THAT crazy and yet he won't believe in the sentient island.]

I heard about the system, but I didn't think you were involved in that.

... [ and as he continues, she is looking more and more baffled ] H-haaa.

Agasa and Kudo-jisan were involved in the production. Agasa for the actual system and Kudo-jisan for the mystery part of the game.

[Shrugs.] It turned out all right.

...and is a possible explanation for this place. [Magic island was a no, but virtual reality? Yeah, that was more believable for him.]

... Conan-kun, I think I'd remember if it was something like that.

Not necessarily. Haibara and I were in the Cocoon System and she agrees with me this could be a Cocoon world. The only way to really tell what was different was from reality was clearly game features or because the program lacked knowledge of special things. It wouldn't be impossible for someone to get rid of those game features.

After that, it's just studying people enough to know anything they might have unique about themselves is incorporated into the system when they enter.

[ ... why couldn't I have gotten easier kids to take care of-- and just facepalming ]

It'd explain a lot! Twenty four hours felt like they passed in game when it was just a few hours at home. Considering I almost broke my foot, you can feel pain. It'd even explain how people come back from the dead. Since it's a gaming system, the original intention was never for players to actually die even if they're killed. It'd explain a lot about this place.

And the people who are from-- or say they're from different worlds? If they're just players, they're sure serious about that part.

There's a few possibilities.

One, most of the players really could just be from a mental ward somewhere and we were taken to mess with people connected to us.

Two, they're either hired to be played like that or they're NPCs.

Third...the people operating the Cocoon did something to their minds to make them think that.

That wouldn't explain seeing their memories, though...

Their memories?

Ah, it was an event awhile ago. By making contact with someone, you'd see one of their memories and they'd see one of yours.

...that...that is a very, very worrying thought.

... Yeah, it's probably a good thing you came later!

Just because I came later doesn't mean anything because no matter what then this place has a way of looking into our minds.

Better the place than all the people here. Not that either's a good idea.

At least the people here can't do anything about it. They're stuck here like us so it's possible to fix it...
