King and King -- I mean what
I'm not sure I understand what this "Christmas" is, or what a "Santa" is supposed to be, but this idea of giving gifts to strangers is rather nice! I'm not very good at making things, and I'm not good at finding things either... so for you, Mion, I wrote a short story. I hope it's to your liking.
Oh, um... Anyone else who wants to read it is welcome to as well. Any advice would be appreciated, too. If you can't read the writing, I'll read it aloud for you. Here it is...
The Two Kings
Long ago, there were two great kingdoms: the Kingdom of the East and the Kingdom of the West.
The two kingdoms were at war. The war raged on for years with both kings unwilling to back down, as such a thing would undoubtedly tarnish their pride.
However, the King of the East soon found that his people were suffering from the strains of war, and his army could not hold the front lines for much longer. Desperate for a solution, he asked for the advice of anyone who would give it.
Scholars came from every corner of the kingdom to offer their wisdom, but none of their ideas pleased the King. His resources would not allow for a prolonged war, yet his pride would not allow for a surrender.
The most intriguing suggestion of all came from a young woman who hailed from a small village.
"Why don't you settle this with a game?"
The King's advisors scoffed and laughed at the young woman, but were silenced by the King. To their shock, he immediately summoned a messenger to deliver a letter of challenge to the King of the West.
"Best me at my game and victory shall be yours."
The King of the West had been facing the same dilemma as the King of the East. When he received the letter, he responded promptly with his acceptance.
The armies of both kingdoms were forced to lay down their weapons as the two Kings met at the centre of the battleground. There, they engaged in their game, each man staking his life, his land, and his very pride on every movement of their pawns.
The contest of wits lasted throughout the entire day, and for the first day in years, no blood was shed between the kingdoms.
When the match came to an end, the sun was beginning to set. The victorious King stood at last, and said to the defeated King, "In facing me on this battlefield, you have shown me great courage. Out of respect for you, my rival, I shall withdraw my troops."
The defeated King was shocked, yet honored, by the victorious King's words. He replied, "In this match, I too have witnessed your true worth as a ruler. Respectfully, I shall also withdraw my troops."
Both Kings returned to their people and announced with great joy, "Let us celebrate, for the war is done." Cries of elation resounded from both sides. The victor of the game was never revealed, but in finding peace for their lands and their people, both Kings were revered as brave victors in their respective countries.
The words of the young woman who had proposed the game thus brought about a new era of peace and prosperity that lasted for many generations.
The End.
[shh pretend it's still christmas. and while we're at it, pretend this doesn't suck. :Db also story manuscript is written in wacky vesperia script so feel free to assume she just read it for you /o/]
